Amol S. Navathe, MD, PhD

Amol Navathe, MD, PhD,  is a professor of Health Policy and Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics, and the founding director of The Parity Center. He is also a staff physician at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and the immediate past vice chair and commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), a non-partisan agency that advises the U.S. Congress on Medicare policy.

Dr. Navathe’s research focuses on Medicare policy, payment model design and evaluation, and the use of behavioral economics to improve clinician decision-making and health care value. His work emphasizes the translation of rigorous evidence into real-world policy and practice. He co-founded and serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Healthcare: The Journal of Delivery Science and Innovation. His research has been published in leading journals, including Science, The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), and The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

In addition to his academic work, he is the founder of Otter Health and previously co-founded Embedded Healthcare (now Clarify Health), companies that apply behavioral economics to improve affordability and quality. He serves on the boards of directors of Hawaii Medical Services Association and SCAN Health Plan.

Dr. Navathe completed his medical training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and his postgraduate medical training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School. He earned his PhD in Health Care Management and Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
