    Who can enroll in courses for the Graduate Certificate in Health Care Innovation?

    The Graduate Certificate in Health Care Innovation is open to current Penn staff, faculty, and graduate or professional students with approval from their program, as well as individuals with at least one year of health care or relevant work experience.

     

    Who can enroll in courses for the Graduate Certificate in Health Care and Technology?

    Online students in Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT), Master of Science in Engineering in Data Science (MSE-DS), and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence (MSE-AI) programs at Penn Engineering are encouraged to apply for the Graduate Certificate in Health Care and Technology.

    This program is also well-suited to computer science professionals who are entering the health care field.

     

    How can I earn the Graduate Certificate in Health Care Innovation?

    Students earn a Graduate Certificate in Health Care Innovation by successfully completing 4 courses within a maximum of 3 years. Courses are offered annually. Students who do not wish to earn the certificate may take one or two courses at their own pace.

    How do I sign up?

    Individuals interested in taking a single course or signing up for the certificate will need to apply.

    Current Penn students should navigate to our permit request form to request permission for upcoming Health Care Innovation (HCIN) Courses. You may sign up any time throughout the year, and courses may be taken in any sequence.

    How can I earn the Graduate Certificate in Health Care and Technology?

    Students earn a Graduate Certificate in Health Care and Technology by successfully completing 4 courses within a maximum of 3 years. Courses are offered annually. Students who do not wish to earn the certificate may take one or two courses at their own pace.

    Can credits earned from a Graduate Certificate be counted toward the Master of Health Care Innovation?

    Yes. Credits earned in either the Graduate Certificate in Health Care Innovation or Graduate Certificate in Health Care and Technology may be counted toward the Master of Health Care Innovation, if the credits were earned no more than 4 years prior to matriculating into the master's program. Some exceptions may apply.

    Will I walk in Graduation after completing the program?

    The graduate certificate is conferred by the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine after successful completion of all course requirements. Upon completion, the certificate is noted on the student’s official transcript. Paper certificates are not distributed. Certificate graduates do not participate in Penn Commencement events because it is not a degree program.

    Will I be considered an Alumni when I complete the program?

    Since certificates are not degree programs, graduates of certificate programs are not considered alumni of the University of Pennsylvania. If a certificate student is concurrently enrolled in a graduate degree program (i.e. a master’s or doctoral degree), they will be considered an alumnus upon graduation of that degree program.
