The Online Professional Development Experience
Courses are designed by experts at the University of Pennsylvania—yet tailored for busy professionals seeking to create solutions to the health care challenges of tomorrow. Online, noncredit courses are 4 weeks long with specified start and end dates. Course content is available for you to learn on your own schedule within a weekly structure.
Renowned faculty share their expertise in approachable, brief lecture videos and interviews in Penn MEHP's online Professional Development courses in health care innovation. Faculty are drawn from the Perelman School of Medicine, the Wharton School and the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation.
Course activities provide practical experience while building on academic roots—including historical context and research-based evidence—to fortify and strengthen your work. The pressure of grading is removed by a pass/no-pass system, and exercises are evaluated on a professional scale: “highly skilled,” “skilled,” or “needs development.”
In a typical course week, you will spend about 8 hours doing the following:
- Watching brief lecture videos.
- Reading authoritative articles.
- Connecting course concepts to your own work and a broader context in written discussions with your classmates.
- Exploring ideas with colleagues outside the course and practicing putting your new knowledge to work.
Courses also include opportunities to pose questions for instructors without having to set aside time in your crowded schedule.
"My experience with From Health Disparities to Health Equity was beyond outstanding and impactful. The timing of this course intersected with the national focus on both the killing of George Floyd and the impact of Covid-19 on communities of color. It was the perfect vehicle to enhance my knowledge of these issues, and as a healthcare research employee, to be able to provide fact based information to my supervisors and co-workers." Phyllis A. Scott, MA, Geisinger Health System
